The dry north has its own set of animals — Grevy zebra, reticulated giraffe, gerenuk, Beisa oryx and Somali ostrich, collectively the Samburu Special Five. The country is harder and hotter than the Mara, the light is extraordinary, and there are far fewer vehicles.
